GoBiotix Postnatal Multivitamins

Our Postnatal Vitamins F.A.Q.

Who should take Postnatal Vitamins and for how long?

If you have recently given birth, it’s important to be aware that pregnancy can deplete the vitamins in your body, including folate, calcium and vitamin B6. Lactating women can also experience deficiencies in zinc, magnesium, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, D, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), choline, and iodine and other important nutrients, as these nutrients partially go towards the creation of milk, as opposed to the bodily functions they would usually support. It’s not all too surprising, then, that many women look into taking postnatal vitamins to provide their bodies with the support that they need during this time. It is generally recommended that you take postnatal vitamins until you have finished breastfeeding - and you may even want to continue taking them after this point. If you aren’t breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you take postnatal vitamins for roughly six months following the birth of your child.

Can Postnatal Vitamins be taken by mothers not lactating?

Yes. Even if you are not lactating, your body has still been through the process of pregnancy and you may find that the extra vitamins supplement and support your body. Remember that the first step to raising a healthy and happy baby is to be as healthy as possible yourself. You need to be at your best to provide your little one with the care and support they need. Research has also found that postnatal vitamins can (as well as supporting bodily health) support your mental health following birth. Vitamin deficiencies, such as vitamin D deficiency, can contribute to mood disorders that are relatively common postpartum. Supplements can help to raise these levels back up and improve symptoms.

What’s the difference between Postnatal and Prenatal?

When you are having a child, the prenatal period is the period before the child’s birth. This can run from conception through to the moment of birth. The postnatal period is the period following childbirth. When it comes to vitamins, prenatal vitamins are those that should be taken in the lead up to your child’s birth. Prenatal vitamins are specially designed to help with the changes your body is going through during pregnancy, ensuring that both you and your baby are receiving the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that you need for the best health possible. Postnatal vitamins are specially designed to support your body following the experience of birth. When you give birth, your body goes through a tiring and draining process and postnatal vitamins can help replenish vitamins, minerals and nutrients that may have depleted throughout the process.
